President’s Message – July 2019
Keep Your Sleeves Rolled Up!
I take full responsibility for the delay in publishing and distributing the July 2019 edition of the Texas Federation of Republican Women’s President’s Newsletter. Currently, the TFRW is involved in numerous efforts around the state to keep Texas red and submitting my PNL article slipped my mind. In addition to keeping the state red, TFRW has a lot housekeeping! Besides planning our fantastic convention at Moody Gardens this October (alongside Sherry Peterson and Debbie Roan), the...

President’s Message – April 2019
It’s April 2019 and that can only mean two things. The Texas Federation of Republican Women shows up at the Capitol in RED to say hello to our Senators and Representatives, and it is tax time. April can be a time for reflection, a reflection on just how poorly the government spends our hard-earned cash. Income, property, sales, and those little annoying fees that are really taxes in disguise. It all adds up and just like Cardi B, I want...

President’s Message – May 2019
I have this unrealistic goal to do something every day that is out of my comfort zone. If I hit that goal a few times a month, I would call it an epic success. This month I was invited to participate on a panel organized by a non-profit, non-partisan group called She Should Run. The organization motivates and inspires women to run for office. It is a non-partisan group. The panel was comprised of three Democrats, one Democrat moderator and...

President’s Message – March 2019
Do you ever wake up and wonder why you are a Republican and not a Democrat? Nope, me either especially the last couple of weeks as the narrative from the left has become so incredibly bizarre. Let’s start with “Meatless Mondays.” My school menu always included a meatless option; grilled cheese, pasta, fish on Friday; meatless Monday is not a new concept, but the narrative is very new and very disturbing. New York City Mayor De Blasio has been quoted...

President’s Message – February 2019
Celebrating my mother-in-law’s 80th birthday in Antigua, Guatemala, was a perfectly natural choice for our family. The Newton story began in Guatemala City where my in-laws met at the Engel Apartments while both were launching their careers; she a biology teacher and he a Coca-Cola executive. Not unlike my mother-in-law, Central America holds a very special place in my heart, and I cherish the days spent wandering the colonial streets, eating freshly made tortillas, or simply watching the locals live...

President’s Message – December 2018
Happy Holidays to all our Texas Federation of Republican Women.
I wish people a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year, and so on, but sometimes I want to say Happy Holidays. Wishing your fellow American a Merry Christmas or Happy Holiday has become a debate that is both religiously and politically charged. Personally, I am tired of linguistics politics during this joyous season, and I do not say Happy Holidays to be politically correct nor do I succumb to the...
