President’s Pen – May 2020

President’s Message

“April showers bring May flowers.”

The increased handwashing protocols and other factors in April have slowed the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic enough that President Trump has announced the transition to reopening our nation to business and commerce in May.

While a return to “normal life” won’t happen overnight, the grit and optimism inherent to Texans is certain to make us one of the first states to rebound. With this in mind, TFRW is moving forward with our Board of Directors meetings in Austin on Friday, June 12th, through Saturday, June 13th. If the unforeseen happens and we are forced to cancel the scheduled meetings, registration payments will be refunded and we will hold Zoom meetings on the same dates. Please plan to join us. We have a LOT of business to catch up on, and I have thoroughly missed seeing all my wonderful TFRW friends from across the state!

Speaking of states, were you aware that our sassy sisters in the California Federation have issued a challenge? Yes ma’am! California President Sue Blair has challenged her clubs to reclaim the distinction of “largest state membership in NFRW” from us. They have effectively thrown down the membership gauntlet, and we, the ladies of Texas, must answer! After years of increasing our member base, we finally attained that coveted designation and it must stay in the Lone Star State.

I love friendly competition but our Texas pride is on the line. So I am issuing a challenge of my own: we cannot allow a blue state to have more members than what we have! The California ladies are energized and motivated; we must be even more so! Gather your membership lists from the last three years and start calling everyone on them. Keep good records of each call so you can follow up.

Then go through your address books and call friends, neighbors, co-workers — anyone and everyone that you care about — and give them the opportunity to make Texas stronger by adding their voice to ours. It’s true our numbers give us strength, but even more importantly, our numbers put the fear of God into the liberal progressives who seek to flip Texas and force their socialist agenda on our families. It will just be the frosting on the cake to beat our California friends again!

For Texas and The Country!
