Women of Distinction – January 2024

TFRW Blog

Toni Treviño, a native Texan and Houstonian, retired after working for twenty-one years as a federal prosecutor in South Texas. After her retirement, she was satisfied helping her husband run his native plant nursery until the summer of 2021 when she learned that her county, Starr, was without a Republican County Chair or a County Executive Committee.

Meetings to find a County Chair eventually led to Toni running for State Republican Executive Committeewoman for SD21 and to countless campaign and training events throughout her District which covers 16 counties from the border in South Texas all the way north to parts of Travis County. She immersed herself in election law and assisted the appointed County Chair to demand the legal rights due to the Starr County Republican Party from their Election Administrator. The 2022 Starr County Republican Primary was the first primary election where the Republican Party was represented at each voting location in Starr County during both early voting and on election day.

Prior to the 2022 General Election, as a volunteer, Toni assisted in training both election workers and poll watchers throughout Texas, and provided volunteer legal assistance through the RNC and the RPT during the election. In January of 2023, Toni helped found the Republican Women of Starr County after seeing the important work of other TFRW clubs throughout her SD and the impact they have on local Republican parties as well as their communities. Despite all these efforts, she cannot tell you that South Texas is “RED,” but they are making progress and will continue to focus on the single goal of electing Republicans to local, state, and federal office.

In mid-December, Toni was appointed to the vacated Starr County Republican Party County Chair position. She proudly accepted while continuing to serve as SREC SD21 Committeewoman and Vice President of the Republican Women of Starr County.
