TFRW Woman of Distinction – September 2021

TFRW Blog

TFRW has chosen to honor one of our dynamic Club Presidents, Mary Jane Avery, as our September Woman of Distinction.

“KEEP TEXAS RED” is a common theme for her drive, energy and joy as she shares her lifelong love of liberty and patriotism all across Texas. When asked, “What is the most important result of years of political activity?” She cheerfully answers, “The cherished friendships sustained over a lifetime of volunteering and campaigning for conservative candidates.”

She served more than 30 years in Beaumont/ Southeast Texas (when it was held by Democrats) as President of the Golden Triangle Republican Women, Vice Chair of the Jefferson County Republican Party, SREC SD4 Committeewoman, and a Candidate for State Representative in 2000. She was recruited to run for State Representative at a TFRW Convention. She definitely “took one for the team” and enjoyed every minute of the campaign! Who knew all those hours of block-walking experience would come in handy to help another State Representative candidate WIN 20 years later!

Retiring to Burnet County 11 years ago brought an unexpected resurgence of campaign activity. She jumped right in and found herself block- walking Sun City in Williamson County for Terry Wilson who won in his race for State Representative.

She currently serves as President of the Burnet County Republican Women, Vice Chair of the Burnet County Republican Party and SREC SD24 Committeewoman. She was honored to be elected as the Presidential Elector from CD25, casting her vote for President Donald J. Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.

She also loves campaigning with the Mighty Texas Strike Force. The boots on the ground that make a difference in whatever area they’re assigned to GOTV. “It is our privilege to assist conservative candidates in surrounding counties – after all, it is a TEAM effort,” says Mary Jane.

She is currently on the road weekly with her traveling buddy, TFRW District Director Gail Teeagarden, as they share SD24. They seek to inspire, motivate and train Republicans and TFRW members to work together to KEEP TEXAS RED!

Mary Jane plays cello at her church, in her community orchestra and in a string quartet. She is married to Graham, a retired Retina Surgeon, and they are the proud parents of one daughter.
