Tribute to a Legacy

Taffy Goldsmith, TFRW Past President 2004-05

It is with great sadness that I share with you the passing of TFRW Past President Taffy Goldsmith.

Taffy leaves behind a legacy of service that made an indelible impression on Texas politics. Her participation began with Senator John Tower’s bid for election. She was the Committeewoman from Texas for the Young Republicans and was singled out as Outstanding Young Republican Woman for her efforts. Taffy was well known in Dallas County politics, having served as Precinct Chair in Lake Highlands for decades, and eventually served as Vice Chairman of the Dallas County Republican Party. She managed Ray Hutchinson’s campaign for Texas House of Representatives in 1972, and was also a Regional Representative on Everett Dirksen’s National Right to Work Committee. Taffy served as President of the Dallas County Council of Republican Women in 2001 and in 2003, was elected President of the Texas Federation of Republican Women, and served out her term with distinction.

She was particularly proud that she had political friends of all ages and generations and was called upon for her counsel by Senators, Congressmen, legislators, local officials and even a First Lady. She was the classic velvet hammer…a sweet but firm voice with wise and well-considered opinions on public policy, politics and the future of our party.

Taffy was mother to five children, and a loving wife to her husband, Cliff. Her memory will resonate through our organization.

Taffy, your many years of service and dedication to the Republican party are an enduring legacy.

Please join us in prayer and sympathy for the Goldsmith family.
