President’s Pen – March 2022

President’s Message

Today is Primary Election Day! I love sitting down with a big bowl of popcorn and watching election results with my husband and our dog Bevo. Can you guess where we went to college?

I am looking forward to watching the results tonight, but my excitement is dampened by the situation in Ukraine. I am saddened and angered by the images of suffering, disbelief, and devastation on the news, and I cannot stop thinking of the young mother I saw interviewed in a shelter with her three children.

But, as another day of Russia’s invasion unfolds, we continue to see Ukrainian civilians determined to fight for their families, their homes, and their freedoms. The great bravery and relentless spirit of unity of the Ukrainian people in the face of this invasion is nothing short of a miracle.

Peace comes through strength, and it appears Russia may have underestimated the strength, bravery, and determination of the Ukrainian people to fight for peace and freedom. It is impossible to know if the Ukrainian people will prevail against the Russian forces, but I pray they will. What a powerful statement that would make to the world!

Democracy is fragile and must be defended. Unlike Ukraine, we are under attack by forces from within our own country. It is critical that active citizens fight for our 1st and 2nd Amendment rights, as well as other rights to protect our freedoms. Active citizens who understand basic moral principles — right from wrong, good from bad — and who take the time to research and support candidates who will act on those principles are needed. It is our responsibility as TFRW women to be those citizens, to have the determination and courage to fight for our country, and to educate our friends and family to do the same.

Are you willing to sacrifice your time and talents for such a time as this? It is my prayer that with a relentless spirit of unity, TFRW women will focus solely on our mission and work to increase membership so that we can educate others and elect Republicans who will stand up for our freedoms and values.

John 14:27 – Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

Building Strong Leaders for Texas,

Kit Whitehill

TFRW President
