President’s Message – March 2019

President’s Message

Do you ever wake up and wonder why you are a Republican and not a Democrat? Nope, me either especially the last couple of weeks as the narrative from the left has become so incredibly bizarre. Let’s start with “Meatless Mondays.” My school menu always included a meatless option; grilled cheese, pasta, fish on Friday; meatless Monday is not a new concept, but the narrative is very new and very disturbing. New York City Mayor De Blasio has been quoted saying, “Cutting back on meat a little will improve New Yorkers’ health and reduce greenhouse gas emissions… we’re expanding Meatless Mondays to all public schools to keep our lunch and planet green for generations to come.” This has me a little baffled does anyone really believe that cows have a direct, substantial impact on the environment? According to research conducted at the University of California, Davis, if every American practiced meatless Mondays there would only be a 0.5 percent decrease in direct greenhouse emissions. The research further reveals that over the past 70 years significant technological, genetic, and management changes in the industry have resulted in less greenhouse gas-intensive emissions. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has even found that, since 1961, while livestock production has doubled greenhouse gas emissions have declined 11.3 percent in the US livestock industry. Maybe we should examine Mayor De Blasio’s portfolio and see if it’s heavy with vegetable stock.

According to new socialist liberals, abstaining from meat is not the only unconventional approach to improve the environment, just ask AOC who seems to be toying with the philosophical concept of anti-natalism. In her own words, AOC stated, “There’s scientific consequences that the lives of children are going to be difficult. And it does lead young people to have a legitimate question: Is it OK to still have children?” The philosophy has been around since the early Greeks but since the recent revelation that we may only have 12 years left before the planet suffers irreversible damage, it is spreading like wildfires (which does have a negative effect on the environment). If liberals feel bringing children into this world is immoral and irresponsible thus making self-imposed genocide the only answer, then I say do what you must and do not birth any babies. Alternatively, I say to my conservative friends, be fruitful and multiply!

The hypocrisy of the far left is just as entertaining as their bizarre proposals for cleaning up the environment. The ever-popular income inequality narrative has been hijacked by Democrats. I think we can all agree that there is and always will be income inequality for reasons that are far too complicated to discuss in a short essay. What I find utterly amusing is that the very people complaining about income inequality happen to on the up side of the economic scale and happen to be Democrats.

A perfect example is the Democrat presidential candidate who is married into one of the wealthiest families in El Paso. How can you seriously complain about income inequality when you have lived and continue to live a privileged life; boarding school in Virginia, an Ivy league education, luxury time in New York as a pseudo rock star. I have no problem with those life experiences that you were given, but please do not pretend that you believe that our economic landscape “… is clearly an imperfect, unfair, unjust and racist capitalist economy.” If you feel so horrible about income inequality then you share your wealth, and if income inequality is so appalling why are you still worth millions?

What I don’t understand is how anyone can believe that liberal, socialist-leaning Democrats are in it for the good of the country and that their intentions, while seemingly altruistic are purely self-centered. Why do so many Americans tolerate these self-serving politicians? Our country deserves better, and that is why the members of the Texas Federation of Republican Women are fighting tooth and nail to save our state and save our country from the insanity that surrounds us every day.
