Woman of Distinction – September 2026
Sherry Peterson was born in Canada and arrived in the United States in 1965. She worked in the field of nursing for 38 years. During this time, she wore many hats and ultimately served as President of the National Association of Healthcare Quality. She traveled throughout the United States and conducted seminars for the organization. She had a book published on this topic.
After retirement, Sherry turned her attention to her community and politics. She joined Pearland Area Republican Women where she held many positions before being elected the club’s president. She saw the need for a club in the heavily Democratic area of West Pearland and helped establish West Pearland Republican Women (WPRW). She continues to work for the club’s presence in the community and at local events throughout the year.
Sherry is a member of the Greater Houston Council of Federated Republican Women (GHCFRW) and served on many committees before being elected president. During her term, she organized quarterly lunches for presidents in GHCFRW to meet and share experiences and give support to each other. She leads the WPRW efforts in the community, believing that face to face meetings are the most effective way to grow at the grassroots level.
Sherry served as Region V Deputy President for the Texas Federation of Republican Women for several years. She has been honored with TFRW Top 10 and Tribute to Women. Sherry worked on the TFRW convention committee in 2009 and created the convention bag for delegates. She was asked to chair the 2019 convention held in Galveston and worked tirelessly to make it a success.
She remains active in West Pearland Republican Women, organizing luncheon meetings, hosting meet and greets for candidates, and publishing a newsletter that covers clubs and candidates in North Brazoria County. She is now spearheading the meetings of all SD11 Federated Republican Clubs to generate enthusiasm prior to the upcoming elections.
Sherry and her husband Barry are parents of a son and a daughter and grandparents to five granddaughters. She refers to them as her support system that makes things work for her. Sherry’s energy and enthusiasm is a role model for other Republican Women.
