Woman of Distinction – September 2024

President’s Message

Since 2017, Audrey Gossett Louis has served as the first Republican and first female 81st Judicial District Attorney and is responsible for prosecuting felony and public corruption cases for Wilson, Atascosa, Karnes, Frio, and La Salle counties. Audrey will be sworn in for her third term on January 1st, 2025.

Audrey’s life is defined by her public service. Her 24-year legal career has been devoted to prosecution. “For me, as an attorney, there is no more impactful work than protecting our community and fighting for those who have had the worst things imaginable happen to them.”

Seeing the need in her community, in 2013, Audrey spearheaded the creation of the Children’s Alliance of South Texas (CAST), a Child Advocacy Center, which serves physically and sexually abused children with free counseling and provides forensic interviews of these children to Child Protective Services and law enforcement. Since October 2013, CAST has served more than 4,500 children in Audrey’s district and surrounding areas.

In April 2024, Audrey was appointed to serve on the Governor’s Sexual Assault Survivor’s Task Force. And, she serves as Chair of the Special Prosecution Unit, a statewide unit responsible for prosecuting all prison crimes. Audrey also serves on the Board of Directors for Safer Path Family Violence Shelter and is a Regional Director for the Texas Border Prosecution Unit.

Audrey is an active member of Wilson County Republican Women and the Republican Party. In her free time, Audrey enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with her family.
