Woman of Distinction – July 2026
Karen Newton is a respected Texas conservative leader and grassroots activist whose service to Republican women’s organizations has had both statewide and national impact. A resident of San Antonio, she served as President of the Texas Federation of Republican Women (TFRW) from 2018–2019. During her tenure, she expanded membership, strengthened ties with the Republican Party of Texas, and led one of the Federation’s most successful fundraising efforts.
In recognition of her TFRW leadership, Karen was awarded the Ronald Reagan Leadership Award by the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) — a distinction given to outstanding state Federation Presidents.
Following her term with TFRW, Karen moved on to serve at the national level with NFRW where she currently serves as First Vice President. She has also served on the NFRW Campaign Committee and as Program Committee Chair where she developed the widely used “Bite Sized Tools” training program to equip Republican women with practical campaign and leadership skills.
Karen has also played an active role in campaign operations and voter engagement efforts. She co-managed the Donald Trump for President National Call Center in San Antonio during the 2016 election cycle and has been involved with TFRW’s Volunteer Engagement Project (VEP), an initiative focused on registering and mobilizing Republican voters across Texas.
At the state level, she previously served as Vice President of Finance for TFRW and as President of Alamo Heights Republican Women.
Karen is also active in her church and values the role of faith and service in her life. She and her husband, Joe, have been married for 38 years and enjoy traveling and spending time with their family, especially at their home in Galveston. Known for her commitment to grassroots activism, leadership development, and advancing conservative principles, Karen remains active in civic and charitable work throughout her community.
