Woman of Distinction – August 2024

TFRW Blog

Though Texan Kris Coons was born in Mississippi and attended Mississippi State University, she returned to Texas in 1992 with her family and vows to stay here forever! Her dedication and service to her community, Bexar County, and the State of Texas speaks volumes about her enthusiasm, character and capabilities. Kris’ vast experience in retail management and marketing has equipped her with a unique perspective that has undoubtedly contributed to her new role as Republican Party of Bexar County (RPBC) Chairwoman. She is very dedicated to the election of Republican candidates, local and state-wide, as well as the re-election of former President Donald Trump!

She was appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to two State Committees: The Juvenile Justice Advisory Board and the Correctional Managed Health Care Committee. She also served on the State Republican Executive Committee SD25. She has been honored as Senate District 25 Volunteer-of-the-Year and TFRW’s Ten Outstanding Republican Women of Texas. She served as RPBC Finance Chair and Volunteer Coordinator, in addition to serving on many other committees. She was Regional Director for the Mighty American Strike Force and served as President of Bexar County Republican Women, the original women’s club in Texas (turning 105 in August!) for three terms.

Kris is from a Republican political family in Louisiana. Her mother, Kay Katz, served as a Republican member of the Louisiana House of Representatives for 13 years. Kris is a devoted wife to husband, Dick, of 34 years, and loving mom to son, Ben, who, as a middle-schooler, is already exhibiting political inklings. Kris is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio. She also belongs to many historical organizations including Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of American Colonists, U.S. Daughters of 1812, Colonial Dames XVII Century and Mayflower Society. These groups epitomize her love of country and our American history.
