Woman of Distinction – April 2025
Ronnye Cowell has been active in politics since retiring in 2020 after 37 years as a teacher and school administrator. She has served as a poll watcher, worked on voter-roll cleanups with Alan Vera, and enjoys electioneering, hosting fundraisers, volunteering weekly at the Harris County Republican Party, and educating friends on local politics.
She served as TFRW District Director for SD7, has been a Delegate at two state conventions, and currently sits on the TFRW Executive Committee as District Director and Deputy President Coordinator.
Additionally, Ronnye is VP of Programs for Magic Circle Republican Women, Recording Secretary for the Greater Houston Council of Federated Republican Women, and Director for Greater Houston Pachyderm.
Ronnye remains passionate about dance and education. A past President of the Texas Dance Educators Association (TDEA) and the Texas Association Teachers of Dance, she has chaired the TDEA Scholarship Committee for 28 years and was inducted into the TDEA Hall of Fame in January 2025 for her historical and significant contributions to the Dance/Drill Team industry in Texas. She also chaired the Texas State University Development Foundation and actively supports student scholarships at her alma mater.
In her free time, Ronnye enjoys playing Mahjong, adjudicating dance competitions, traveling, reading, and being a proud Gramma. She and her husband, Chip, have four wonderful grandchildren.
