President’s Pen – February 2022

President’s Message

I hope you were one of the 350+ women who attended our Building Strong Leaders for Texas Leadership Day in San Marcos. What an amazing day and weekend it was! It took many hours of hard work and planning by our Leadership Day team and office staff to make Leadership Day happen, and I thank each of them for their dedication that led to a successful event.

But I also want to thank each woman who attended and supported Leadership Day. You ladies brought unmatched energy, enthusiasm, and excitement to the day.

It is hard for me to express the emotions I felt throughout the day as I saw everything from the Candidate Meet and Greet, the headshots, the breakout sessions, the luncheon, and the AG forum come together perfectly. All I could think was this is what TFRW is all about and seeing it all come together made all the hours worthwhile.

The Patron’s Event with our speaker Retired U.S. Air Force Captain, Joni Marquez was a special evening that I will remember for many years. Joni shared her emotional story of how the events of August 6th, 2011, when she was the fire control officer aboard an AC-130 gunship, forever changed her life. It was on this tragic night that a Chinook with the call sign Extortion 17 was shot down killing 31 heroes. I could not have been more proud of our TFRW organization as our members rallied around Joni and encouraged her and loved on her. If you would like to send Joni a thank you note please send it in care of TFRW, PO Box 171146, Austin, TX, 78717-0041. I know your notes would mean the world to her.

The Attorney General Candidate Forum was another highlight. I agreed with the candidate who stated he wished Julie Faubel, our Forum Moderator, could lead all their upcoming forums. Thank you Julie for your professionalism throughout the forum planning process and during the event. As always, you represented TFRW so well!

A huge thank you goes out to Cassie Daniel Howell and her team for planning breakout sessions that were instructive and entertaining. If you left before the closing session you missed a real treat. Not only did Cassie train us on how the RPT convention process works, but she entertained us as only Cassie can.
