President’s Pen – April 2025
Spring is here and you can see it everywhere! Bluebonnets are piercing the landscape, days are longer and warmer, and everything is budding. Our Board meeting was fabulous. We had outstanding attendance with so many staying over after Legislative Day.
Thank you to NFRW 1st VP Martha Jenkins for your glowing accolades, and of course to Steve Munisteri for an excellent overview of the Governor’s agenda. Big news from the TFRW Board Meeting, March 22nd—the location for the 36th Biennial Convention 2027 will be Moody Gardens, Galveston, Texas, October 19-23, 2027!
Jill Tate, VP Legislation, and Bergundi Cain, VP Finance, knocked it out of the ballpark, planning our Legislative Dinner Thursday night and great training on Friday. Louri O’Leary and her staff worked hard keeping up with so many daily changes. GREAT JOB LADIES! Thank you Secretary of State Jane Nelson and Speaker Dustin Burrows for encouraging us to keep up our great work and engaging our members in the legislative process.
Thanks to all our sponsors who helped make this Legislative Day one of the best ever. We had 50+ State Legislators attend our opening night dinner making it a huge success. A big THANK YOU to all TFRW Clubs that sponsored tables.
I proudly attended the NFRW Spring Board Meeting in Washington, D.C., this month. TFRW continues to lead the way. We voted on proposed Bylaw Amendments for the upcoming Convention in Orlando this September, and on the 2027 NFRW Convention site which will be held in Texas at the Gaylord! TFRW shined at this Board meeting and I can’t thank you enough for all you do.
Talking about Convention—time to gear up for our own 35th Biennial Convention at the Grand Hyatt, in San Antonio, October 23-25, 2025. We will be celebrating Leading the Way for 70 Years! Be watching as we start to announce deadline dates for registration and don’t forget Awards applications are due August 1st.
In addition, don’t forget the NFRW Convention, September 25-28, 2025, at Rosen Shingle Creek, Orlando, Florida. One Delegate and one Alternate may attend from each club and of course guests from clubs may attend as well. NFRW will be offering a great Early Bird registration $300 for three weeks only to be announced in the Capitol Connection. Take advantage of this great price. Regular registration will be $495 after this promo ends. So, watch for your Capitol Connection announcement. Please start working on your Awards for this NFRW Convention. All NFRW awards applications are due June 1st. You’ve worked very hard during this two-year cycle; your club deserves national recognition!
There will be hard deadline dates coming up so stay on top of it!
I am so proud of each and every one of you. It was great seeing so many of you at Legislative Day and I can’t wait to see you again at the convention. We have one more Board meeting scheduled for July 19th at Embassy Suites in Round Rock. The 2026-2027 Slate will be announced. So, MARK your calendars!
I am humbly honored to serve you. If I can help you with anything, please feel free to contact me. God Bless you and God Bless Texas.
