Preparing a Budget
It is important to prepare an annual Budget at the beginning of every year for approval by your Board and
Membership. Budgets ensure that the Board is being fiscally responsible and that the club remains financially
sound. You can draft a new budget by following one from a previous year. Those projections, coupled with the
previous year’s actual income and expense numbers, will form the basis of your estimates for the coming year. You
can use this information to adjust your plans or expectations going forward.
A 12-month budget can be updated with actual expenditures and revenues
every month so that you know you’re on target. Periodically report the Actual
Revenues and Expenditures compared to Budget Revenues and Expenditures
to your Board and Membership.
If you need to amend your budget or disburse funds “Outside the Budget,”
follow the procedures established in your club’s bylaws.
