Glynis’ Fashion Tips
We certainly started 2018 off with a BANG! Leadership Day was a huge success. Thank you to the planning team,
the presenters, and all of the volunteers who hit this event out of the park! For those who attended, you now
understand when I say “these are not the meetings you’re used to.” I hope you enjoyed the band, the opportunity
to have a professional headshot taken, and the Attire to Inspire fashion show. I have received multiple requests for
a copy of my “fashion tips,” so here they are:
• Accessorize with brights. Your travel wardrobe goes further when you stick with neutral bases and compliment
with bright bags, scarves, and shoes. Feeling really bold? Use two different brights!
• When shopping, take a list (or even pictures) of the 5 or 6 pieces you wear most often. These are the items that
you want to build off of.
• If you find something you adore and it looks great on you, don’t hesitate to buy more than one. That bright
white top won’t be as bright in 6 months. If you love it, buy 2!
• Upgrade your buttons. Sometimes the only giveaway that your cute jacket cost less than your lunch money is
the cheap hardware, so swap them out!
• The secret ingredient to great fitting casual clothes is Lycra, 5% for t-shirts and 2% for jeans, to hold their shape.
• Investing in cashmere? Do the CQT (cashmere quality test). First, thicker is better. Second, when gently
stretched, does it snap back? Better quality cashmere will resume its shape. Finally, look for labels from
Scotland or Italy because the best weavers are located there.
• Great shoes and interesting jewelry will elevate any ensemble from ho-hum to WOW!
• When in doubt, wear nude pumps that match your skin tone. They’re always “safe” and make your legs look
longer.
• Know your shape; ignore the rest. Trying new trends is great, but only if it works with your body type. If you’re
petite and curvy, look for a defined waist instead of a maxi dress (even if you love it). Broad shoulders? Wear
V-necks to draw the eye inward. Busty? Avoid ruffles across your chest and wear necklaces higher to draw the
eye up toward your face. Thick ankles? D’Orsay style pumps give the illusion of thinner ankles and longer calves.
Shop relentlessly for your shape.
Plan now to attend the April Board meeting. And back by popular demand… the TFRW
Scavenger Hunt! Start thinking about your team; first points available will be at the April Board
Meeting. See you there!
It is an honor and privilege to serve you, and I would love to have your input, suggestions, and
feedback at [email protected].
