The Texas Federation of Republican Women partners with The American Red Cross
This is an extraordinary time of need for the American Red Cross to provide blood across Texas. Blood donors are needed every day for critical patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery, and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer, to name a few. The COVID 19 crisis has greatly reduced blood donations, but the need for blood continues. Our clubs and members of the TFRW can fill a particularly important need by hosting blood drives across the state.
The biggest challenge for the Red Cross during social distancing requirements is the inability to use their blood donation vans. Large rooms with open space are needed, and our clubs are providing donor locations, as well as blood donors. The location needs are simple but important. Red Cross needs a room with a minimum of 1,000 square feet, that can be maintained at 68 degrees F, with handicap access and few or no stairs.
The benefits to the Texas Federation and the local clubs are many. By sponsoring a drive, the TFRW and the sponsoring club name, logo and membership information are front and center in press releases, social media, and the Red Cross website. The Red Cross provides a lot of media and press release templates you can take advantage of, or you can craft your own. Not only that but The Red Cross pushes out our information on press releases, social media and the like as well.
The Red Cross makes scheduling your blood drive easy by providing a scheduler for your drive on their website. The great thing is the scheduler is available to you, your club members, and to the public so non-members can also donate at your drive. You will have access to blood donor information, which you can use to provide them with club information. I suggest sending all donors a thank you note from your club with membership and meeting information.
We urge you help save lives by taking advantage of this tremendous partnership opportunity! If you are interested in scheduling blood drives and have questions, please contact me directly.
