Ballot Security

Barbara Larson, Chairman

To All Women in TFRW:

The worst scenario in a democracy is when the voters lose confidence in the integrity of the voting system.  We cannot let this happen.  We must pass legislation to require a picture ID to vote. The recent referendum on the March ballot to require a picture ID to vote passed in Texas by 1,241,305 to 80,537 votes (93.90% FOR / 6.09% AGAINST).

As you are aware, legislation was proposed in the 2007 Texas Legislative Session to require a picture ID in order to vote.  Unfortunately, this legislation was defeated in the same session. Prior to reintroducing this legislation in 2009, there will be committee hearings on this issue which is the reason for this letter.

The first action I am asking you to take is to notify me of any voting irregularities you observed in the past.  The irregularities can have taken place in the primary that was just held or in any prior election.  Perhaps you were an election judge or a poll worker and observed these irregularities.  I do not want to hear about something you read on the internet, I need specific instances with times and places where you observed a voting irregularity.   I will collect this information and will try to testify when committee hearings are scheduled on this issue.  Please take the time to respond to me at the above address or by e-mail at barbaralarson@usa.net.  We need facts to present to legislators to urge the passage of this important legislation.

The second action that you can do is to write to the office of the Lieutenant Governor; the Speaker of the House, Tom Craddick; and your state senator and representative.  Please tell them how important it is to you that legislation be passed in the State of Texas requiring a picture ID to vote.  Their addresses are:

Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst        Speaker Tom Craddick

Your State Senator and Representative can be found here: www.capitol.state.tx.us

Please take the time to do these two simple things.  We need to involve every Republican Woman in the State of Texas in order to pass this vital legislation. We need the assurance that each vote cast is a legitimate vote!!  If you need to contact me you can reach me at 281 589 1984 or barbaralarson@usa.net.

Very truly yours,

Barbara Larson
