CARING FOR AMERICA

I am excited to inform our TFRW members that clubs throughout the state have been “doing their share’ for the cause.  Here is a list of some of the reports that I have received regarding their “Caring for America” projects.

Lake Highlands RW -Dallas

Gloria Gibeau, President, reports that she has 2 retirement villages knitting helmet liners for her chapter.  In only 3 weeks, they have completed over 50.  GREAT JOB!

Alamo City RW - San Antonio

Their chapter looks after the children of 40 families at the SAMM Transitional Center in the evening, provides food at times, has donated over 750 books to the library, donated 1000 pairs of children’s socks, dress-for success clothes for adults and provides mentoring.

Bexar Co. RW - San Antonio

The Bexar County Republican have stocked the Woman at the Well residence with paper products, cleaning and laundry supplies, umbrella and rain bonnets, light bulbs, flatware, groceries and coupons gift cards for the local merchants, and cash for emergencies.

Northeast Bexar Co. RW - San Antonio

Caring for America Chair Aileen Webb has been doing a great job collecting gift cards and money for Woman at the Well.  She also makes monthly trips to RAPAC after collecting money and non-perishable food items for their food bank.   The club has also been collecting blankets and other items for our military in Iraq. Thanks, Aileen

Brown Co. RW

Brown County has been purchasing Shields of Strength for the Military and their families.  This project has been ongoing since 2004.  The club also provides refreshment for local military and family support groups twice a month.

Bush Legacy RW of Weatherford - Weatherford

The women of this club visit with seniors, purchase tickets for seniors to attend an annual spaghetti dinner and silent auction at the Parker County Senior Center.  They also support the Meals-On-Wheels Program by volunteering to assist with services to the senior citizens of their area.

Central Texas RW

Central Texas RW has a yearly project that selects a high school social studies class to attend Government Day activities at Bell County Courthouse and Jail.   It is quite a learning experience for these young adults.  A tour of the courthouse and jail is also on the schedule and the students are encouraged to register to vote is old enough and participate in Republican activities.

Cooke Co. RW

The club donates and sends care packages and letters to the Marines in Iraq.

Fort Bend RW

Every year the members hold a senior citizen holiday party in which the women are given baskets filled with lotion, shampoo, cologne, potholders, and Christmas pin.  The men receive razors, shaving cream, tools, hats, and gloves.  Other gifts donated included fresh fruit and wreath centerpieces, radios and scarves and hats.

Georgetown Area RW

The club supports a county child advocacy center for children that are victims of severe abuse.  These children are given books, books bags, stuffed animals, games and snacks.

These are just a few.  I know that all the Texas clubs are doing great things for their community, please ask your Caring for America Chairperson to keep me informed of what you are presently doing and will be doing in the future.  If you have a special  project that you would like for me to highlight or you think it might be a good state project please let me know and I will put it in the newsletter for all to share. Make sure you report not only to me, but also to the
