To the Members of the Texas Federation of Republican Women,

I enjoyed meeting your President, Toni Anne, at the recent NFRW board meeting. She has allowed me to share with you some information about a new grassroots movement that is catching fire across the country!

American Solutions is a new, nonpartisan organization founded by former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.  We recognize that the American people have grown tired of the red-versus-blue partisanship.  The message for those seeking office in 2008 is clear: Americans want real change.

In the spirit of real change, we have developed a unique political document that serves as a blueprint of real change.  We call it: THE PLATFORM OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. Each of its 91 planks has the overwhelming support of a majority of Americans, including majorities of Democrats, Republicans, and independents.

We are asking the Texas Federation of Republican Women to help lead the charge among the other women’s state federation groups by:

1.      Signing our petition urging the Republican and Democratic parties to formally consider -- by allowing for full and open debate, and a clear and fair vote -- each of the planks of the Platform for the American People during their district, state, and national conventions.  While we hope that all of the planks will be adopted, at the very least they should be given fair consideration

2.       BEING A VOICE at your local and state parties and urging them to consider each plank in The Platform of the American People during their caucus or convention.

3.       Encouraging your friends, family, and colleagues to sign our petition. Our goal is 25,000 signatures!

4.       Downloading a copy of our Action Pack and learn how to get more involved (writing op-eds, calling local radio stations, and more!)

To get a sense of the tri-partisan nature of The Platform, here are 10 planks we feel are of particular importance to the national dialogue:

ü      English should be the official language of government. (87 to 11)

ü      The option of a single rate system should give taxpayers the convenience of filing their taxes with just a single sheet of paper. (82 to 15)

ü      Keeping the reference to “One Nation Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance is very important. (88 to 11)

ü      The changes we need in government have to occur in all 513,000 elected offices throughout the country and cannot be achieved by focusing only on Washington. (84 to 12)

ü      Congress should make it a crime to advocate acts of terrorism or violent conduct or the killing of innocent people in the United States. (83 to 12)

ü      We should dramatically increase our investment in math and science education. (91 to 8)

ü      The United States should only grant citizenship to those who want to embrace American values and culture.  (68 to 29)

ü      We support giving a large financial prize to the first company or individual who invents a new, safer way to dispose of nuclear waste products. (79 to 16)

ü      Illegal immigrants who commit felonies should be deported. (88 to 10)

ü      We have an obligation to be good stewards of God’s creation for future generations. (95 to 3)

Thanks so much for working with us! I am happy to answer any questions you have regarding this movement.

Confident about the future,

Princella D. Smith

Chief Advocate for the Platform of the American People
