Rethink Literacy

It’s an outreach tool...a membership tool...a publicity tool...and it’s

an opportunity to enhance the presence of Republicans in our communities!

Appoint a Literacy Chairman today!

Participation in the Barbara Bush Literacy Library Project (BBLLP) and/or the Mamie Eisenhower Library Project (MELP)  in both 2008 and 2009 is a requirement for the John Goodwin Tower Award of Excellence!

BARBARA BUSH LITERACY LIBRARY PROJECT (BBLLP)

Barbara Bush founded the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy on March 6, 1989.  Since that time the foundation has awarded nearly $13 million to build or expand about four hundred family literacy programs in forty-four states. Local clubs are encouraged to donate at least ten (10) books to a local library, school, or shelter in support of the BBLLP. TFRW Literacy Chair will provide bookplates to the local clubs in order that the bookplates may be placed in the books before they are donated. Bookplate request forms are located at www.tfrw.org.

MAMIE EISENHOWER LIBRARY PROJECT (MELP)

The purpose of the Mamie Eisenhower Library Project, established in 1961 to honor the former First Lady, is to foster Republican philosophy and ideas through the donation of subject related books and videos to libraries, schools, or other institutions. Local clubs are encouraged to donate at least one book from the official MELP list (found at www.nfrw.org ).  TFRW Literacy Chair will provide bookplates to the local clubs in order that the bookplates may be placed in the books before they are donated. Bookplate request forms are located at www.tfrw.org.

THE DICTIONARY PROJECT

The Dictionary Project was started with the goal of providing third grade students with their own personal dictionary. This is a popular project nationwide. If the schools in your area are already being provided for, consider adopting a school in a low income or minority neighborhood nearby. The history, information on how to implement the project and secure book ordering capability is located at www.dictionaryproject.org.  Local clubs provide their own bookplates. Donation reporting forms are located at www.tfrw.org.

I look forward to helping you start or expand your literacy programs!

Please copy me with your press releases and share your successes.
