Americanism

Early voting begins on February 19, where has the time gone?  Soon (on March 4, 2008) Texas will hold its Republican Primary to determine the nominee for President of the United States, as well as other down ballot races.

It appears that John McCain will be the nominee, he has received several endorsements and recently, Mitt Romney gave his support and urged his delegates to vote for Senator McCain.

I have to say that this election cycle is the most difficult of any I have experienced.  In looking at the numbers during these primary elections in other states, one thing is perfectly clear.  The number of Democrat voters that are going to the polls is much greater than the number of Republicans going to the polls.  What does this mean?

It means that unless we all work to get the vote out after the Primary we may…..I don’t even want to go there.

In our electoral process, the time between the nomination of our candidate in September, at the National Convention, and the beginning of early voting in October is not very long.

The time that we need to concentrate on begins the day after March 4 and continues until Election Day, November 4.

We as Republican Women need to begin now getting our club members motivated to go into their communities and work to get the vote out.  At our last board meeting, Hazel Roman, Vice President of Membership gave us a slogan.  “Membership is a lifestyle not an event” and ladies I believe that a “GET OUT THE VOTE” program must also be a lifestyle.  The future of this country is too important to have us sitting on our laurels as the D’s are motivated and getting out their voters.  We cannot be complacent.

After March 4, we need to go to work.  Every club and every city is different. We may have a different approach and a different constituency, but make no mistake, we can make a difference, and after all we are Republican Women

Let’s do what we do.  Get candidates elected.
